What is Trigeminal Neuralgia?
Trigeminal Neuralgia (also called Tic doulourex) is a facial pain syndrome in the distribution of the Trigeminal nerve.
Symptoms of Trigeminal Neuralgia:
• Sudden onset of sharp, stabbing, intense pain lasting up to 2 minutes (usually on one side of the face)
• Pain is often triggered by chewing, speaking or brushing the teeth.
• During attacks, patients may grimace, wince, move as they are trying to escape the pain.
Diagnosing Trigeminal Neuralgia: Your chiropractor will perform a full exam of the head, ears, eyes, nose and throat as well as cranial nerve examination to rule out any other conditions. Scans can also be ordered depending on the findings.
